Sri Lankan batting star Mahela Jayawardene has announced that he will quit Test cricket after the upcoming home series against South Africa and Pakistan.
With 145 appearances so far, Jayawardene is most capped Sri Lankan player in the longest format of the game and is currently the joint-leading run scorer for the country, alongside Kumar Sangakkara with 11,493 runs.
Jayawardene, who retired from T20Is after the 2014 T20 WC, however, has stressed that he will continue to play the 50-over format.
He also had two stints as Sri Lanka's captain and has proved to be a safe pair of hands in the slips cordon, evident from his 197 catches in Tests.
