Top 10 Most Popular Bollywood Actors in 2014

Bollywood productions have been internationally appreciated for quite some time but unlike other regions, the movie stars tend to come and go. A lot of the currently popular male actors started their career recently but their ascension amongst the best performers was more than accelerated. A lot of these young actors mange to grab leading roles for their debut movies which boosts their career. However, unlike their female counterparts, there are some veterans that maintained a top position. With no further ado, here are the current top 10 most popular Bollywood Actors in 2014.

1. Salman Khan

Salman Khan is the most well-known Indian actor. His career started little over two decades ago when he got his first role in 1988’s “Biwi Ho To Aisi”. Since then, most of his movies managed to reach international public, making him a very notorious figure with great acting talent and good looks. As of now, Khan starred in more than 80 Bollywood productions and is the only actor that played leading roles in 5 consecutive blockbusters. In the past couple of years, Salman Khan’s movies managed to reach blockbuster status and did extremely well in terms of box office and critic reviews. He is now one of the best paid Bollywood actors mainly due to his talent and popularity.

2. Amir Khan

Amir is yet another face that everyone would recognize. At 49 years of age, Khan reached an international status that very few other Bollywood actors managed to achieve. His acting career started in 1984 when he received a part in the movie “Holi”. At that moment he started focusing only on acting. However, Khan is also known for his appearance as a child actor in 1973. In the past decade, Khan managed to keep his position as one of the top Bollywood actors and kept on getting leading roles and not taking a break from the film set. In fact, he actually started spending more time on the set when began directing and producing movies. In the past couple of years, his popularity increased even more as he was part of the cast of multiple successful titles.

3. Shahrukh Khan

Khan is probably the most well-known Indian actor on an international scale. At 48 years of age, he managed to appear in more than 50 Hindi movies released over a course of just over two decades. However, his career might have not been this successful if it wasn’t for his other activities and talents. Khan established himself as a reputable producer, TV host, philanthropist and mentor. In the past couple of years, Khan became even a bigger Bollywood star. His movie “3 Idiots” turned into an international success, making him the third most popular actor.

4. Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar started his acting career in 1991 and in little over two decades of activity, he managed to get credited for no less than 125 films. Such an intensive acting career would have not been possible without his natural talent and charisma. In the past couple of years, Akshay started co-producing movies. 2012’s “Housefull 2” is one of the productions that wears his name and despite the relative mixed critic reviews the movie did extremely well in terms of box office performance. He continued producing movies and released several titles in 2013. 2014 will also have a few productions that will have him on set.

5. Hrithik Roshan

Roshan made a name for himself with the aid of his ability to perform a wide range of roles. Critics mostly appreciate Roshan for his work ethic and versatility. In terms of career path, Roshan is one of Bollywoods few child actors that made it big. His very first acting experience took place when he was only 6 in 1980. For 2014, Roshan will be features in the upcoming movie “Bang Bang”.

6. Ajay Devgan

Even if Ajay is not the best looking male actors in Bollywood he is certainly one of the most influential. Born on April 2, 1969, the 45 year old actor established himself as a successful producer and director to complete his cinematic career. His very first role was in 1991’s “Phool Aur Kaante”. Like most other popular actors, his performance got him an award for best male debut. In the past couple of years, his activity focused on mixing acting with production. He has directed quite a few movies and several titles are set for release in 2014.

7. Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor was born in 1981 but started his career at a later stage of his life. Up till 2003 when he made his big debut on the big screen, Kapoor focused on music videos and commercials. His first acting role got him a Filmfare Award for his performance in 2003’s “Ishq Vashk”. He continued his ascension throughout the following year with more and more titles featuring him in a leading role. For 2014, Kapoor is preparing an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Hamlet”.

8. Saif Ali Khan

Born on August 16, 1970, Saif is one of the most notorious names in the industry. Even the movies that do not feature his name in the cast might have him as listed as producer. His very first role in the 1194 production “Aashiq Awara” got him an award for best debut. In the past couple of years, his cinematic activity got him to build his own production company. He still works on his acting career, having quite a few movies with him in the cast being released on a yearly basis. He actually produced the first zombie horror comedy ever shot in Bollywood.

9. Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is a rather young male actor but his success managed to place him amongst the highest paid actors in Bollywood. With such a busy schedule and so many productions that list his name in the cast, Kapoor remains one of the most popular actors of the moment.

10. Amitabh Bachchan

At 71 years of age, Amitabh manages to maintain his position as an influential actor, a common figure amongst the fans of Bollywood productions. His career started more than four decades ago and won multiple awards for his performance. He is actually the most nominated Indian performer with a total of 39 nominations. In the past few years, Bachchan focused on less roles but in more significant productions. In 2013 he managed get a part in the cast for the Hollywood blockbuster “The Great Gatsby” alongside some of the biggest American movie industry stars.
