 10 Interesting Uses of Garlic

There are much more uses of garlic than just cooking. Go through for some clever ways to use this vampire slaying herb.

Use as a pesticide in your garden

Avoid using those harmful commercial pesticides and choose a natural, diy method with garlic instead. It is fast and easy to make, economical, not toxic to the environment and to your body and it works. Chop one to two heads of garlic, put in the bottom of a jar and cover with boiled water. Put lid on and allow staying overnight, then strain and add garlic water to the soap spray. It will decay, so be sure to freeze leftovers until ready to use again.

Repel mosquitoes and other Insects

Everyone knows that the best way to frighten a vampire is garlic. But do you have any idea why? Well, one theory is that, blood sucking mosquitoes like vampires are afraid of garlic. You could rub garlic on your skin to ward off mosquitoes, if it is possible, but you can also leave out cloves of garlic in areas where mosquitoes flock.

Do not feed your pets garlic

There is a major thought that garlic will help protect your cats and dogs from fleas, ticks and other pesky critters. While this believe is true, garlic might be very toxic for animals. An occasional small amount, such as that in most commercial pet treats and foods, might not cause a problem, but because of the risk, it is generally recommended to avoid feeding your pets things that contain more concentrated amounts of garlic.

Repair glass

Think of this as a quick fix for mildly damaged glass. Grease the sticky juice of a crushed clove of garlic onto the hairline cracks and wipe away an excess liquid. Garlic is a natural adhesive, so it will help the glass to stay together and prevent any further damage.

Use as a glue

As it was mentioned above you can use garlic in place of glue for other things, such as paper crafts.

In a hopeless situation, garlic salt does wonders in de-icing roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces.

Make a DIY Surface Cleaner

Chop up three or four cloves of garlic and toss them in a spray bottle filled with white vinegar. Add a few drops of lemon oil. You have got a perfect DIY disinfectant spray.

Use as a cooler

Although garlic is known as an herb that increases heat in food, it actually protects you from strong lights of the sun. Farmers in the hot deserts carry pellets of garlic and chilly wrapped together, to help them stay cool in the fields.

Hair loss helper

Whether you have over dyed your hair to the point of constant shedding or you are just going bald, garlic can be worth a shot before you resort to more drastic measures or just buy a lot of hats. Some experts claim that massaging the scalp with garlic oil stimulates hair growth.

Gas prevention

High in sulfur, garlic is the culprit for uncomfortable stomach distending gas for some people, but for others, it can obviously ease it. The trick is consuming garlic on a regular basis in order to maintain digestive system’s health.
